List of top 10 songs by Madonna till 2017

10. ‘Hung Up.’

‘Hung Up’ was released in 2005 off the album ‘Confessions on a Dancefloor.’ This song brought Madonna back to the limelight after two years since her previous song ‘American Life’ that performed so poorly. This track was very impressive. It set the tone of the album in which it is contained. It was this song and the album as a whole that saw Madonna rejuvenate her roots in disco. This song got its inspiration by her favorite song in her early twenties when she was a regular in Danceteria. The song received endorsements from ABBA and earned Madonna a slot in the much respected Guinness Book Of World Records. Its success did not stop there. The song recorded sales of more than nine million across the world.

9. ‘Crazy For You.’

Madonna recorded this song after she had released only two albums of her career. This song saw its release in 1985 as a song in the album ‘Vision Quest.’ ‘Crazy For You’ was instrumental in redefining Madonna’s prosperity. In this song, she continued to portray her persona as well as her influential charisma. It was this song that brought back people who had earlier expressed skepticism about her success and also served to cement her relationship with her loyal following. The way Madonna delivered this song shows just how talented she was as it would have been hard for a lesser perform to put it together.

8. ‘Drowned World/Substitute for Love.’

It is a song that was never released in the United States officially. It was, however, successful in the United Kingdom as it managed to earn a place in the UK top ten. ‘Drowned Love/Substitute For Love’ was released as part of the album titled ‘Ray of Light’ in 1998. Besides its success in the UK, it became a hit across Europe. Despite the little airplay it received elsewhere in the world, this song had the best style, art, and unequaled lyrics.

7. ‘Justify My Love.’

Another great hit from Madonna, ‘Justify My Love,’ is from the album ‘Immaculate Collection.’ Before this song, there had never been another consistent number one hit on the radio. The predominant use of spoken-word to inspire a breathy and seductive tone makes it so unique until today. It is only her other songs that have tried to rival it. The song drew its inspiration from the work of poetry by Ingrid Chavez and was penned by Lenny Kravitz although Madonna also contributed to the lyrics. Despite the success it received in radio play, the song’s video was banned for displaying odd sexuality. ‘Justify My Love’ stood out as a major hit due to its innovativeness.

6. ‘Express Yourself.’

The number six position in this list goes to Madonna’s second single off the album ‘Like a Prayer’ of 1989. With this jam, she cemented what people always perceived her to be- an icon of an independent woman. In the song, she actively advocates for feminism and calls upon fellow women to embrace self-expression in all their relationships. The video to the song, however, received a lot of criticism arising from what the critics alleged to be conflicting messages as to what Madonna stood for. She was accused of being anti-feminist since the video exhibited a case of a woman chained to the bed as she awaited her male lover to return. She disputed this as untrue affirming that she still stood for the independence of women. This is one of the Madonna Top 10 Songs of All Time till 2017.

5. ‘Like a Virgin.’

‘Like a Virgin’ is titled after the name of the album must surely have been a hit even to the owner. It was a single from the album ‘Like a Virgin’ of 1984. By this particular year, Madonna had released five tracks since her debut into the pop scene. At the time, the starlet was in a fierce competition for dominance with ‘Cyndi Lauper’ and everyone doubted that she would make it in an industry crowded by so many successful pop artists. These doubts were, however, cast aside ‘Like A Virgin’ hit the airwaves. To the surprise of many, this track catapulted her to a pedestal earning her the status of a pop culture icon. Madonna went full throttle venturing into topics which were, hitherto, viewed a taboo even to mention. Her name now became a household name, and the song was hailed for demystifying Madonna. ‘Like a Virgin’ became her first #1 US hit ever.

4. ‘Music.’

‘Music’ practically reclaimed Madonna’s rightful place as the ‘Queen of Pop’ at the beginning of the 21st century. It was a great comeback for her into the limelight. The song was done in collaboration with Mirwais Ahmadzai and became an anthem for the ‘Queen of Pop.’ In this song, she reaffirms her nimbleness as she dances like never before. She also proves that she is still able to pen unique hits. The single has since become her last number-one single in the United States.

3. ‘Like a Prayer.’

This single dates back to 1989 from Madonna’s album ‘Like a Prayer.’ In this song, she decides to break from the norm and appeal to an audience with a higher degree of maturity. She was intelligent to know that her dear fans from the 80s had come of age. The song succeeded her divorce from Sean Penn and her unsuccessful career as an actress. The song courted a lot of controversies and was very provocative because of its video that prompted the Vatican to denounce her. It was this discussion that made the people appreciate the song more. Complexity in its musicology, as well as the intricacy of the lyrics, catapulted its success even more.

2. ‘Live to Tell.’

A ballad from Madonna that perfectly defines her as a person, ‘Live To Tell’ is a single from the ‘True Blue.’ The song has a chorus that elicits a lot of emotions as she sings, “A man can tell a thousand lies
I’ve learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, ‘till then
It will burn inside of me.”

In the song, we are introduced to a different part of Madonna that she rarely exposes- one in which we learn of her fears as a human being.

1. ‘Into the Groove.’

This track is Madonna’s best single ever to hit the airwaves. Most of her fans say that they fell in love with Madonna when she released it in 1984.’ ‘Into the Groove’ comes out as a very cool song. So cool is the song that even Madonna cannot describe the coolness. And to think that she prides in having written within just five minutes is mind boggling. How can someone create fame in such a short time? This single is truly the Madonna anthem- however much she would fail to understand how it became so.

New Songs by Madonna 2016-2017

Madonna has not yet produced a song in 2016-2017. Her last release was her 13th album titled ‘Rebel Heart’ in 2015 which brought us songs like ‘Living for Love’ and ‘Bitch I’m Madonna.’

However, rumor has it that something could be in the offing from Madonna in 2017 if words by Qweci, a Ghanaian R&B singer, are anything to go by. The singer, formerly known as Ded Buddy was quoted saying that: ‘Back in the United States, I co-wrote a track for American songstress Madonna which is not yet released.” ‘I wrote the song, so it’s one of the songs which is being pushed to her right now to be released.’ ‘I co-produced, co-arranged and stuff for Madonna’s album.”

Surely, we cannot rule out Madonna out of the pop industry just yet. Going by the kind of energy we saw in ‘Rebel Heart’ last year which was followed by a tour to popularize the album, we can expect more to come from the Queen of pop.
