The Italian Armed Forces is headed by the President of the republic and the service branches include Esercito Italiano, the army force; Marina Militare, the naval force; Aeronautica Militare, the air force; Carabineri, the gendarmerie that involves in missions and operations abroad. Its domestic defence material suppliers are Avio, Beretta, Breda, Fiocchi Munizioni, Piaggio Aerospace and others. The major foreign suppliers in defence are the United States of America and the European Union. The active personnel in the Italian Armed forces are about 347,927 along with 41,867 reserved personnel. It spends about 1.27% of its GDP and had an annual budget of €35.8 billion for defence.
