9. The United Kingdom:
The British Armed forces take care of defence of the country, its overseas territories and the Crown dependencies. It has about 153,470 active personnel in its military and the annual budget for defence amounts to about $65 billion. It takes part in supporting international peacekeeping efforts and provides humanitarian aid in times of natural disasters and terror attacks. The services under the British Armed force are the British Army, the land warfare branch; the Naval Service consisting of Royal Navy and Royal Marines; the Royal Air Force with both fixed wing and rotary aircraft. It is an active member of NATO and other coalition operations. They maintain overseas garrisons at Ascension Island, Bermuda, Brunei, Canada, Bahrain, Cyprus, Germany, Kenya Nepal and others. It tested its first nuclear weapon in 1952 and now remains one of the five recognised nuclear powers in the world.
