Take a look at the below list of Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies 2017. In 2017, the world of movies hopes to see the release of some big films. Whether they be sequels, adaptations of anime or novels, comic book sequels, biopics, live action remake of a Disney classic, original films, or the latest Christopher Nolan film, 2017 should be a year to remember. I have tried, and failed at times, to fill this list with stand alone titles that are not reboots or adaptations or sequels. In this day and age, movies are made with the idea to make more and more sequels after them. We will see beyond our fair share of comic book movies, a trend that has yet to slow down. In 2017, both DC and Marvel will release multiple movies (with Marvel releasing five and DC releasing two).
List of Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies 2017
10. “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets”
The next film from filmmaker Luc Besson (who wrote, co-produced, and directs the movie), the movie is based on a comic series called “Valerian and Laureline”. The movie will star Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne as the leads.
9. “Coldest City”
Based of a graphic novel, the movie stars Charlize Theron, John Goodman, and James McAvoy. The movie is a spy thriller film.
8. “Wonder Woman”
There is no denying that these comic book films, in their current, to be taken serious form, are here to stay. DC’s Wonder Woman The film stars Gal Gadot as the titular Amazonian woman, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, and Robin Wright. The movie is directed by Patty Jenkins.
7. “Furious 8”
“Furious 7” will be tough to beat. It was the final film with Paul Walker and the best one yet. This next one will have to figure out who, besides Vin Diesel and the Rock, will be in the movie. Despite both things, this movie should prove to be a big film. It will be the opening chapter in the concluding trilogy to the franchise. The movie will be directed by F. Gary Gray who takes over for James Wan who did such a great job with “Furious 7”.
6. “Justice League”
The film that will join all of DC’s heroes for one movie will be released in 2017. Directed by Zack Snyder and stars Jason Mamoa, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, and Ezra Miller.
5. “Spiderman: Homecoming”
The third version of Spiderman on the big screen in yet another reboot. This one stars Tom Holland as Spiderman/ Peter Parker, and Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark/ Iron Man (who, rather than appear in his own films, seems to be in other heroes’s solo movies to add about $200 million dollars to the profit of the film). The villain will be played Michael Keaton.
4. “Guardians of the Galaxy”
Kurt Russell joins an already large cast as Peter Quill’s father. This one should be big for fans of the first one. It will be interesting to see how James Gunn is able to capture the lives of this group of Guardians another time. Hopefully, it won’t just be like a lot of sequels that capture only that which the first one did well and offers nothing new. Another film that everyone hopes lives up to the hype.
3. “Live By Night”
Based off of a Dennis Lehane novel that was written, directed, co-produced by Ben Affleck; he also stars as Joe Coughlin in the film along with Brendan Gleeson, Elle Fanning, and Chris Messina. The movie is about the son of a police captain who becomes a bootlegger and notorious gangster during prohibition.
Even though to watch Christopher Nolan’s movies you almost need an advanced degree of some kind, his movies are hugely popular and highly anticipated. The movie stars Aneurin Barnard, Kenneth Branagh, and James D’Arcy.
1. “Star Wars Episode VIII”
Any list of highly anticipated movies coming out in 2017 would not be complete without this one. This is the biggest and most anticipated because “Star Wars” films are always highly anticipated. The middle entry in a “Star Wars” trilogy is the most important because it must answer questions that the first one posed and must set up the concluding chapter. “The Force Awakens” was a big deal, so a sequel has big shoes to fill and a lot to answer.
Let’s hope that some, if not all of these films make us all as we hope they do. Let us hope too that they do not turn out to be something more like “Phantom Menace”, that was highly anticipated but did not make as big of a splash as everyone hoped. If you are wondering where “Lego Batman”, “Thor: Ragnarok”, and “Beauty and the Beast” are and why they not on the list, well the list only has ten slots and there are so many movies that could go on the list.
